With unlimited potential for fresh tracks the backcountry is where the heart of every true skier resides. Recent years has seen a surge of interest by many skiers from resort based skiing into travelling beyond the resort boundaries away from the lifts and crowds.
Although lifts come in handy for accessing the backcountry, ski tourers often climb on their skis as much they descend. The Val d’Anniviers has many fabulous touring possibilities; summits, remote valleys, steeps, multi-day excursions. If required, our certified instructors and guides will teach you how to use the gear, travel on 'skins' and help improve your backcountry skiing technique. Whether your objective is to ski untracked powder or simply to experience the tranquility of touring away from the masses, look no further than GZBA.
If you’re new to off-piste and backcountry skiing, please first check out our instructional off-piste options. You’ll enjoy ski touring SO much more, if you’re able to ski efficiently and in a controlled manner in ungroomed terrain. Walking uphill for hours has to be rewarded with great downhill skiing!

Typical daily outings will include 2-3 hours of skinning interspersed with canny use of lifts – hey, we don’t want to tire ourselves out too much – and superb ski descents leading to some of the Val d’Anniviers more remote corners. You can book one or more day tours with an overnight in a hut if you wish.

The Val d’Anniviers offers some of the best hut-to-hut touring in the Alps. The majestic Imperial Crown derives its grand name from the range of 4,000m peaks that encircle the Val d’Anniviers. It is home to 4-5 strategically located huts and offers sublime ski touring outings. Travelling with a guide will give you the opportunity to reach higher into the mountains and experience this fantastic area in a truly unique way, away from the 'regular' visitor.
